Global Fishery Forum & International Exhibition Start in St. Petersburg

Ilya Shestakov, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Head of the Federal Agency for Fishery, launched the Global Fishery Forum & International Exhibition for Fishery, Seafood and Knowhow in St. Petersburg.

Mr. Shestakov stressed that the interest in the forum exceeded all expectations: delegations from the countries that provide half of the world’s catch of aquatic biological resources and two-thirds of the world’s production of aquaculture products arrived in the northern capital of Russia.

“Traditionally, the political and business agenda are separated. But we are convinced that the challenges faced by the global economy require mutual trust and joint action, compromise and mutually beneficial solutions,” said the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Head of the Federal Fishery Agency.

As the Fishnews correspondent reports, the forum will take place on 14–15 September. Issues of work in the World Ocean, fish and seafood world trade, coastal fish processing, aquaculture, fleet construction, conservation of aquatic biological resource stocks, and certification of fisheries will be discussed. A significant event will be the discussion of the Strategy for Development of the Fishery Industry of the Russian Federation till 2030.

“More than 80 speakers will talk within the scopes of the business program, delegations from Australia, Brazil, Guinea-Bissau, Germany, Iran, Iceland, Italy, Kazakhstan, Cambodia, Canada, China, Morocco, Namibia, Norway, USA, Sierra Leone, Faroe Islands, Chile, and Japan are attending the forum,” said the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Head of the Federal Agency for Fishery. He noted that the interest in the forum exceeded all expectations.

The leading companies from the key fishing regions take part in the Exhibition for Fishery, Seafood and Knowhow. Enterprises dealing with the equipment and services necessary for fishermen also arrived in Russia’s northern capital. “This year the area of ​​over 3 thousand square m allocates more than 100 exhibitors from 25 regions and 11 countries of the world,” cited Ilya Shestakov. He expressed his hope that the exhibition will become a significant and regular event in the business world. “I am confident that the forum and the exhibition will set a new communication format in the fishing industry. This is an excellent platform for international dialogue in the field of fisheries aimed at identifying vectors of innovative development and constructive cooperation,” emphasized the Head of the Russian fishery industry.
